Student Career Opportunity Outreach Program (SCOOP)

Boston Children's Hospital

A six-week summer internship for high school students interested in pediatric nursing and the health professions, embedding interns in clinical units alongside nurses and multidisciplinary teams.

Who should apply

High school students drawn to pediatric nursing or hands-on hospital patient-care environments who want immersive clinical exposure.

Eligibility

Rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in nursing/health careers. Small cohort (~10 interns).

What you get

  • Six weeks (~24 hrs/week, Mon–Thu) working alongside a mentor in a patient-services area
  • Shadowing of nurses and multidisciplinary teams
  • A capstone project presented at the program's end
  • Weekly group meetings with fellow interns

What the application involves

  • 500-word essay on your interest in healthcare and why the experience would be meaningful
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Submission via the Boston Children's Submittable portal

Application tips

  • Use the essay to connect a personal story to a specific interest in pediatric nursing.
  • Choose recommenders who can speak to your maturity in a clinical/patient-facing setting.

Good to know

Running since 2003, managed by the Clinical Education and Informatics Department. Program materials do not list a stipend.
