Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship

Seniors from low-income families who have taken any computer science class, including dual enrollment, and want a CS or engineering degree. If your GPA kept you from applying elsewhere, this one was designed for you.

• High school senior in the United States
• Completed or currently enrolled in a computer science course, including dual enrollment courses; students without one can take an Amazon-offered assessment instead
• Minimum 2.3 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering, data science, or a related field
• Demonstrate substantial financial need
• Authorized to work in the U.S. for at least two years
• Must enroll full-time

• Up to $10,000 per year, renewable for up to three additional years with good academic standing
• A paid summer internship at Amazon after freshman year
• Industry mentorship
• Experience on production-level projects

• Online application through Scholarship America
• Short-answer responses about your classroom performance, real-world tech experience, and work history
• One online recommendation, preferably from a computer science teacher
• High school transcript
• First two pages of your household's most recent IRS Form 1040

• Ask a parent or guardian for the 1040 pages early. Missing tax documents are the most common reason applications go incomplete.
• If you have not taken a CS class, take Amazon's assessment instead of skipping the scholarship. That path is built into the rules.
• Note the two-stage deadline in recent cycles: the application itself was due before the final materials deadline. Do not treat them as the same date.
• Write about real tech work, not just grades. Reviewers explicitly weigh outside-the-classroom experience and jobs you have held.
• Scholarship America staff, not Amazon employees, read the applications. Write for a general reader, not an engineer.

Amazon selects 400 high school seniors each year. Awards cover unmet financial need up to the annual maximum, so the amount varies by student. Renewal generally requires maintaining a 2.0 GPA or better. Questions go to amazonfutureengineer@scholarshipamerica.org.
