MGH Youth Neurology Education and Research Program

Massachusetts General Hospital

Hands-on experience and mentorship in neurology and neuroscience, with a deep dive into medical research and clinical practice — ideal for students considering a career in neurology.

Who should apply

A great fit for Massachusetts-based students with a demonstrated interest in neurology who are rising high school seniors, recent grads, or undergraduates and can commit to a full-time summer schedule.

Eligibility

  • Rising high school senior, recent high school graduate / rising college first-year, current undergraduate, or recent college graduate
  • Living or studying in Massachusetts at the time of the program
  • Demonstrated interest in neurology-related careers
  • Able to make a full-time commitment (no exceptions)
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Meets Mass General Brigham occupational health requirements, including proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • No GPA requirement

What you get

  • Paid, full-time (40 hr/week) summer internship of roughly 6–8 weeks
  • Mentored research in faculty labs
  • Bootcamp onboarding
  • Weekly didactic sessions with neurologists
  • Final research presentation experience

What the application involves

  • Online application
  • CV/resume (PDF)
  • Statement of interest (250-word max) on your academic interests and what you expect from the program
  • Contact information for two references (contacted only for interview candidates)
  • No letters of recommendation required

Application tips

  • Lead your 250-word statement with a specific, genuine reason for your interest in neurology rather than generic “I want to help people” language.
  • Choose references who can speak to your curiosity and reliability, and confirm their contact info is current.
  • Because there's no GPA cutoff, emphasize initiative, projects, and persistence over grades.
  • Apply early in the window and proofread your PDF resume for clean formatting.
  • Be ready to confirm full-time availability for the exact program dates — the commitment is strict.
